Stop 1 · the chain lift
The slowest part of the ride and the only part anyone enjoys. Nothing has happened yet and the number is going up, which people will later describe as their strongest conviction.

You can see the whole park from up here. Everyone takes a photograph. Nobody gets off, because there is no getting off, because it is a roller coaster and that is the arrangement you agreed to at the gate.
Stop 3 · the main event
Here it is. The thing you said you would buy. It is happening right now, at speed, and you are not buying it — you are holding the bar and making a sound you have not made since you were nine.
Stop 4 · airtime hill
The sensation of leaving your seat. Also the sensation of your position leaving your account. Engineers call this airtime and charge extra for it.
Stop 5 · the brake run
Everything goes quiet. The train slows. You begin to think it is over and that you handled it well. This is the part of the track where the second drop is not yet visible.
Stop 6 · the second dip
Shorter than the first. Worse than the first, because the first one you did not see coming and this one you did.
